The Story Book is a first ever storybook themed event space in Malaysia, dedicated to bring to live stories from books. Our aim is to leave a legacy of reading and education for the next generation - many of whom no longer read books or know the magic and knowledge that books bring.
We opened in February 2018 and had our official launching in March 2018. Since then, we have conducted many events for both adults and children in our event space related to books and reading.
Our objectives:
1. The Story Book is incorporated with the objective to revolutionize the bookshop industry. Books and bookshops are perceived by the young generation as boring and cold.
2. Many of the young generation no longer read and THE STORY BOOK hopes to change this by making stories from books come alive through our interactive events and activities at our event space.
3. We want to make people (especially the young people and children) to fall in love with reading stories from books once again.
Our team: We are a group young and young at heart people who believe in the vision of THE STORY BOOK.
Why Crowd Funding
While we have been rather popular and managed to get traction in a rather short time since we opened, we need funds to ensure our business survival and to keep track on our vision to revolutionize reading and the bookshop industry. In a way, we are championing education. Statistics have shown that people who are well-read are often more intelligent than their peers. People who are imaginative and creative are also people who love stories from books. We are now living in an era of short attention span and creativity deficit. People cannot imagine nor be creative because they do not know the magical world that stories from books can bring. People spend more time on Facebook than an actual book. We want to change this and help people discover the stories within books, to change the way people perceive books (that it is longer just for nerds and bookworms) and to see their lives and their children’s lives changed forever.
By supporting our project, you are also supporting education and promoting creativity and learning for the new generation.
Our Budget Plan
Funds will receive will primarily go to cover the rental of the unit. With the RM30,000 funds, we will be able to cover our rental for another 5 months towards end of the 2018. Our current revenues are primarily from event space rental (45%), retail sales of books and ancillary products (20%), event ticket fees (20%) and sublet of our space to popup stores (15%). Supporters will be rewarded with a membership package for THE STORY BOOK which allows them to enjoy discounts from our books and event fees. If we can get 1,000 people to support with just RM30 – we will be able to raise the RM30,000 and keep THE STORY BOOK alive until we see our more tenants move into the shopping plaza where we are located.
The challenge is our location. We need more people to know about THE STORY BOOK and how unique it is in helping to shape the development and creativity of the next generation.
